Thanks to all those who offered suggestions to hel me out on this
problem.
As it turned out I was having a conflict with Solarias 2.3 as my
compiled version of kerberos was confllicting with the pre installed
kerberos programs that sun installs with 2.3.
After recompiling on Solarias 2.4 I had no problems.
