The confusion, here, is that people have been grabbing the CNS free
*V4* release to handle the V4-compatibilty parts of MIT-V5, because
CNS-V4 is so easy to build. There is *no* free CNS *V5* release --
just go to MIT for free V5 releases.

Furthermore, with beta 5, you no longer need to build v4 to get
compatibility, as lib/krb4 and lib/kdb4 are automatically built as
part of the mit V5 build.

In any case, some people have trouble building v5b5 under linux, but
I'm pretty sure it is because of bad tools (sed or awk.) I don't know
for sure, as neither Ted nor I ever see the problem -- so I would
recommend that one of you that *is* having trouble actually make some
effort to diagnose it... or at least provide more useful reports than
"it doesn't work under linux".
