hi everyone,

in preparation for having to maintain and update the pages we've worked on
once they go public, i have made a few changes in file locations and
directory structure. since the files were already dispersed over several
directories, it seemed important to start a list of what is where and what
we (the is homepage team) are responsible for.

the master list of pages that i know of that fall under the is homepage
umbrella is at <http://web.mit.edu/is/dev/files.html>.

i have created a toplevel directory in the is locker for each of our main
topics, if one did not exist already. these directories are: help,
reference, training, products, views, projects, org. we own at least the
index.html file in each of these directories (also the entire dev
directory). in some, such as the help directory, there are additional
files that fall under our purview.

the way i envision the files.html list to be used, until we have a better
method, is as follows: if we create an additional page (or if i missed one
that should be on there) it gets added to the files.html document.
is-home has editorial control over the content and format of the pages on
this list. if a global change is done (i.e. colors, header, etc.) is-home
is responsible for propagating that change to all the files on this list.
we do not do anything to files not on this list.

finally, i created a templates directory in the dev directory (its
contents are also indexed in the files.html document) which holds the
header, footer and menu templates to be the masters for the other pages.
all of the files on files.html are currently checked in with RCS.

i didn't really make any changes to the content of the pages, except
updating links so they work in case of files having moved around.

thanks, and have a great weekend. enjoy the sun.

oliver
