We agreed at the elibdev meeting Tuesday the LSO would get in touch with David K.
and see what can be done.

Subject: Electronic Reserves

Janet:

I am the Reserves Coordinator for the Rotch Library. Your talk
yesterday gave me some ideas of how Athena could further assist students
in their studies at the Institute. Our reserves collection is
comprised in part of tons of journal reprints which are required
reading for courses in Architecture and Urban Planning. These items
circulate for only two hours at a time and can only be accessed
during library hours. In addition, there may be only one or two
copies of an article for a class containing more than 20 students.
Would it be possible via some sort of optical scanner to convert these
reprints into an electronic format which could then be accessed
through Athena? This would provide around the clock access to a vital
part of our reserve collection by all students. I would be interested
in testing this idea with a course or two if current technology
allows. Does this idea sound feasible now or in the near future?

Thanks for your help and for yesterdays info session.

David
