I've been working on the problem of organizing information in large
systems. I've built a prototype system, called Prospero, which is
presently being used to tie together information available from
Internet archive sites.
The key idea behind Prospero is that it supports a user centered view
of files scattered across the Internet. It can be used to organize
references to files as if they were on your local system without the
need to physically move them. It also allows you to include in your
view directories that have been created by others, organizing
information on various topics.
At MIT, Prospero is presently running on charon, and eddie. The
server is also running on Aeneas. It can be made available from
others systems if people are interested. For more information, send a
message to info-prospero@cs.washington.edu.
