Have you wished you could display a formatted document (brochure, or
newletter) on the Web retaining all the formatting from the paper
version? Acrobat may be the answer.
Come to a presentation on Acrobat:
Thursday, March 23, noon-1:30 in the Visitors Center (E40-302)
(maximum capacity 30 people, CWIS-Pub user group)
or
Friday, March 24, 9-10:30 am, Room 3-133.
(lots of room)
The presentation will be given by John Cook, the Acrobat representative.
The presentation will begin with a brief statement of some of the reasons why
more and more people are becoming interested in a cross-platform communications
tool, such as ACROBAT. It will then continue with an introduction to the basic
components of the ACROBAT product set, including the native file format - the
Portable Document Format or "pdf," and a description of the Reader, Exchange,
and Distiller programs.
Next will come a demonstration of several quite different examples of how
ACROBAT is currently being implemented and "prototyped" in a number of academic
settings. These examples will include "on-line" computer documentation,
curriculum materials, campus newletters, and electronic versions of several very
complex documents that were originally designed as "hard copy" or "print"
publications.
After a discussion of these examples, there will be a treatment of the changes
in the pricing and packaging of ACROBAT that occurred with the debut of the 2.0
version late last fall. This will lead into an overview of some of the key new
features that were added to ACROBAT in the 2.0 version, such as cross-document
linking, article threading, security, customization of "sticky notes," and font
embedding.
Finally, the presentaton will conclude with a delineation of the growing third
party support for ACROBAT, and a preview of the ways in which Adobe plans to
develop this exciting new technology over the course of the next year. There
will also be a time to discuss training opportunities and support options at
the end of this session.
