On the IBMNEW forum of CompuServe I came across several classics
in marked-up form and readable through an impressive reader, which
displays, searches, backtracks, provides for bookmarks, notes, and
permits saving to a file and printing. I have tried the reader on
Tom Paine's COMMON SENSE and am quite impressed with it. I thought
the members of the GUTENBERG community might be interested in this
project of ADVANTAGE FOUNDATION.
The texts in the CompuServe forum are:
CMNSEN.ZIP 58B 81 Common Sense by Tom Paine (PaperLess)
HOLMES.ZIP 163B 71 Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Part 1, 8 stories,PaperLess)
SSCARL.ZIP 112B 81 Sherlock Holmes: A Study in Scarlet (PaperLess)
TSAWYE.ZIP 174B 71 The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (PaperLess)
USCONS.ZIP 20B 71 U.S. Constitution (PaperLess)
WARWOR.ZIP 147B 71 War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells (PaperLess)
All of it is --as far as I can see-- free of charge, although the firm
also produces commercial paperless products and has a BBS in Houston,
which --because of line-noise here from Newfoundland-- I haven't tried.
Here is a blurb about Advantage's publication project:
