Dear Networker,
CNI-COPYRIGHT@CNI.ORG is not a BITNET LISTSERV list. Please READ this
note, and retain for future reference if needed.
Welcome to the Copyright and Intellectual Property Forum of the
Coalition for Networked Information (CNI-COPYRIGHT@CNI.ORG). You may leave
this forum at any time by sending a message to the unix-listserv on the
Coalition's server (LISTSERV@CNI.ORG) asking to UNSUBSCRIBE CNI-COPYRIGHT.
By sending electronic mail to CNI-COPYRIGHT@CNI.ORG, you can distribute
messages to the participants of this forum.
ABOUT THE FORUM:
Copyright issues pervade our lives affecting everything from
the labels on the cans of soft drinks to the things we watch on
television to all the things we read. It has a tremendous effect
on networking activities as evidenced by the number of lists which
discuss copyright issues from time to time. But it is often
misunderstood, subject to easy misinterpretation and at times very
complicated. Many people simply throw out copyright questions to
any list hoping to get an answer that makes some sense. Others who
have an interest in copyright per se find themselves trying to
monitor dozens of lists in order to get into a regular flow of
copyright discussions. This list is being organized to give those
who ask, answer, and discuss copyright questions of any type a
forum for discussion. Discussion will not be limited to any one
area such as copyright for electronic materials. To see a list of
suggested issues to be addressed on this forum, send the following
command to LISTSERV@CNI.ORG

REPLY FUNCTION:
Using the automatic reply function on your local mail system should
return your reply to ALL THE READERS OF THIS FORUM, not just to the person
who sent the original posting. Please do not use the automatic reply
functions on your local mailers unless you intend everyone to see your
replies. Please use discretion.
There is no method that will allow unix-listserv to account for all of
the possible local implementations of the many varying mailers available in
the Internet. Therefore, some experimentation may be required to see how
your local mailer will interact with messages from this unix-listserv.
UNIX-LISTSERV:
This forum is operated in the unix environment, but is not a simple
mail-reflector. The unix-listserv, programmed by Anastasios C. Kotsikonas
(Copyright (c) 1992,1992), has many features similar to BITNET LISTSERV
systems, although the syntax of commands may vary slightly. To begin
learning more about the system, send one or more of the following commands

No subject line is required (or suggested) when communicating with the
unix-listserv (LISTSERV@CNI.ORG), although if you include one it will be
ignored. After your request has been processed, you will receive a
message from the unix-listserv giving brief information regarding
the commands this system supports.
When you initially subscribe to this forum, your subscription request
is processed and you are added to the forum with the no acknowledgement
(NOACK) variable set. Therefore, when you post notes to the forum, you
will not receive copies of your own notes. If you wish to receive copies
of your own notes, you can change this status by sending a message to
LISTSERV@CNI.ORG which specifies
