Digital technology is transforming scholarly communication. As
technology creates new opportunities for the creation and
distribution of information, technology also places stress upon
the social and legal foundations of scholarship. The ability to
copy, alter, and distribute information electronically creates
conflicts for current intellectual property protections. In
addition, new forms of information can be created digitally; for
example, multi-media products present intellectual property
issues of definition and protection. How will we manage
intellectual property in the electronic age and will the current
framework continue to be viable?
