Hi,
I ran into a serious problem when trying to install Eudora 3.0.2 over
Tether. I got the installer from the email/eudora/test directory on
net-dist.
Basically, if I did custom install and installed just the eudora stuff, the
stuff that doesn't insist that you reboot, it worked just fine. When I
tried to install the kerberos stuff, it quits all other applications and as
a result I lose my Tether connection. Then it tries to install, but it
hangs, having no network connection. I can't click on 'stop' I have to
force quit it, and I found that I needed to force quit the installer twice
in order to get it to understand.
I first tried it by doing an "easy install" and it hung on trying to
download kclient. Then I tried by parts. I was able to install the
non-system parts separately, but then the kerberos stuff insisted on
rebooting the machine afterwards. The second or third time I tried (wanted
to make sure it was repeatable) it got past kclient to kerberos client
preferences, and I found that I had only a kclient alias in my system
folder afterwards. I was therefore unable to run Eudora at all, until I
went to net-dist and ftp'ed a kclient and kerberos client preferences
through fetch.
I was doing this on my Powerbook 520, System 7.5.3 (System Update 2.0),
MacTCP (umm, 2.06? the latest), MacPPP (I *think* ConfigPPP said 2.1.2).
I don't usually have trouble with my connection being dropped and it
was very consistently dropped right after it told me that it was closing
all open applications.
thanks,
alicia
