Status report on talos, et al:
1) All files have been dumped from talos:/u1 to aphro:/u3 and
from talos:/u2 to rodan:/u2. Talos's drive 2 is now out of service.
We will leave it exactly as is until next Monday (in case we need
to go back and get anything from it). Next Monday, we'll start working
on getting the disk back in shape (bad block removal, testing, possibly
scheduling hardware maintenance if necessary).
2) File that were on talos:/u2 were available on rodan:/u2 around 7:30pm
last night. (The dump/restore took approx 2hrs.)
3) Files that were on talos:/u1 starting being available on aphro:/u3
around 8:30 this monrning. (The dump/restore took approx 12 hrs.)
Due to a Moira "decision", the process of making the files available
was somewhat delayed (by about 2-3hrs). Allshould be available before
noon today.
Lessons:
a) When we knew we wanted this disk out of service a few weeks
ago, we should have been more aggressive about moving files
off.
b) Next time we have to do a major dump/restore, DON'T restore
to a partition that's already in use...it complicates things.
If possible, restore to a DISK that's not in use.
