failed athena activation

Hi,
I recently installed Athena on a Sparc 5. Even though Sparc 5's
are not supported, I don't believe that is the problem.....
Every time I try to log in using X, I get the message system failed to
activate properly. I can only log in using the terminal, and when I try
to log in as anything but root, I get "System-wide initialization
files not found"
"C Shell initialization has not been performed"
"unknown mode: dec"
and a ">" instead of the usual "athena%"
the machine is cwu.mit.edu
this hostname used to be used for an athena linux machine. does that
affect things?
I changed my private workstation registration information, but it may
not have taken
effect.
Please help me solve this.
