Hi,
J.J. asked me to send the error messages I'm getting on my Indy,
tabasco.mit.edu. What is happening to the workstation now is
identical to what happened to it a couple of weeks ago: The
workstation had frozen with the generic Athena message on its screen
(not login screen). Pressing the power button on the front to reboot
the system didn't work. I had to unplug it to unfreeze the screen.
The workstation then attempted to reboot but gave me several error messages ...
Can't figure out who you are
Some filesystems failed to mount, may be unable to reach multiuser state
cannot find in /etc/hosts
and of course ... PANIC: KERNEL FAULT
Currently, the workstation is trying repeatedly to reboot itself.
By the way, I spoke to Naomi, who tells me that because she and Vijay
have not finalized their O2 strategy, she hasn't ordered tabasco's
replacement O2. She hopes to have an answer soon, which will either
result in ordering a new O2 for me or a Sun Ultra of some kind.

Humanity has an amazing inability to plan. Not too many
generations ago, when our relatives lived by hunting and
gathering, the inability to plan for the next season meant
death. Planners survived. The clueless died. But today,
Homo Sapiens eats at McDonalds - for the moment, planning
and survival are not strongly linked. --David Isenberg
