To: hotline@MIT.EDU Cc: mdblum@MIT.EDU Date: Wed, 26 Nov 1997 15:34:03 EST From: Matthew D Blum <mdblum@MIT.EDU> I've noticed a problem with some of the SGI monitors, especially those in the fifth floor student center cluster. Every once in a while, the monitor will display windows really poorly. It's almost as if it refuses to display every other column of pixels, resulting in windows having a bunch of dark vertical stripes. The window titles and pop-up menus (made by clicking on the background) are sometimes barely readable because of this problem. Right now, I am on w20-575-83 and I am having the problem, and I also see it on w20-575-85. Is this a hardware bug or it is a "power-saving" mode on the monitor? Is there a button I'm supposed to press or a command to type to get rid of these lines so I can read my windows? Am I just missing something stupid or is this really a bug? If you could look into this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, --Matt Blum
