CD ROM problem in OE Athena cluster

The CDROM drive (external) on AMERICA-3.mit.edu on 7-321
is failing. The students have reported many problems using
it, sometimes complaining that it outright `doesn't work.`
I've seen it and I agree. Can it be replaced or repaired?

PS: The workstation I'm referring to is an SGI Indy to the right of the door
as you walk into 7-321.
