Cluster closings and server shutdowns during the 1st week of Winter Break:
W20-575 from noon on Sun. 12/24/95 to 8:00 AM on Tues. 12/26/95
11-113 and 11-116 from 8:00 AM on Wed. 12/27/95 to 5:00 PM on Fri. 12/29/95
Servers solon, priam, nessus, minos, and ftp.dialup.mit.edu
between 12:01 AM and 3:00 AM Wed. 12/27/95 (Tues. night)
Servers typhon, ladon, acheron ixion, orf and finch
between 12:01 AM and 3:00 AM Thurs. 12/28/95 (Wed. night)

There will be many Cluster closings and server shutdowns over Winter
Break. This is a list of the shutdowns scheduled for the first week
of winter break (Sat. 12/24/95 - Fri. 12/29/95).
W20-575 from noon on Sun. 12/24/95 to 8:00 AM on Tues. 12/26/95
The W20 cluster will be closed, because the student center is going to
be closed Sunday afternoon through Tuesday morning. There will be a
similar closing around New Year's day, but the exact times of that
shutdown have not been scheduled yet.
11-113 and 11-116 from 8:00 AM on Wed. 12/27/95 to 5:00 PM on Fri. 12/29/95
The fishbowl will be closed, so work can be done on the cluster.
Servers solon, priam, nessus, minos, and ftp.dialup.mit.edu
between 12:01 AM and 3:00 AM Wed. 12/27/95 (Tues. night)
These servers will be shutdown so they can be moved onto a UPS
(uninterruptable power supply). In addition solon priam and nessus
will receive a software upgrade. It is not expected that all of the
servers will be down for the entire duration of the shutdown, but any
of them may be down at any point during the specified time period.
While ftp.dialup.mit.edu is down, people can ftp to
express.dialup.mit.edu instead.
solon, priam and nessus are file servers, while they are down, all
lockers on them will be unavailable. To find out if you are affected:
% add consult
% lookup <lockername>
Filesystem <lockername> (AFS) is located on:
Server-name.MIT.EDU (read-write)
(nessus is an NFS server, so the output might look slightly different)
Servers typhon, ladon, acheron, ixion, orf and finch
between 12:01 AM and 3:00 AM Thurs. 12/28/95 (Wed. night)
These servers will be shutdown in order to do some preventative
maintenance. In addition, ixion and acheron will receive a software
upgrade. It is not expected that all of the servers will be down for
the entire duration of the shutdown, but any of them may be down at
any point during the specified time period.
orf is an AFS database server in the Athena cell. People will receive
timeouts, but should be able to continue work using the other three
database servers.
typhon, ladon, acheron, ixion, are file servers, while they are down,
all lockers on them will be unavailable. To find out if you are affected:
