I have finally narrowed the cause of the problem extensively
described in hotline[#1856], where two RT machines in the ESG cluster
(jabberwock (esg05) and jubjub-bird (esg06)) could not communicate with
the printer server. The difficulty seems to be in their Ethernet boards.
This explains the oddity in that a similar machine (frumious-bandersnatch
(esg02)) could contact the printer server. It appears that there is some
tolerance where the boards in esg05 and esg06 cannot exchange data with
the card in the server (a VSII), while for some reason (a difference of
some sort), the board in esg02 does work. Apparently the problem has
nothing to do with software or local customization.
