Hi,

As I mentioned on Friday, Solar should be used for Sparc Classic
installs, even if you're installing a 7.7 machine. Helios should
not be used. According to Miki, the install procedure should
work fine from Solar even if you're installing 7.7. Please,
please, please don't use Helios. Helios is the spare, for use
when Solar is down.

If you run into any problems make a note of the specific message
and let us know. We'll look into the problem asap. Miki is
around to help, too.

I'd like to avoid a situation where we have have a separate
install server for each release. It sort of sounds like we're
heading down that path, which is a bad thing.

Miki looked into the reported problem with the sun install and wasn't
sure why it didn't work. She said nothing has changed and the install
should just work.

For now, continue to use solar to install sparc classics and let us
know if you're successful or if you have problems. Let us know
of anything that is a "critical" install and we'll be around in case
there are problems.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Hello Miki,

Last night, and again this morning, John Chase had problems installing
the sun workstation 'the-thin-man.'

The-thin-man has cluster info for beta test:

	chich> hesinfo the-thin-man cluster
	lpr bud
	syslib beta-sun4sys
	syslib bbeta-sun4sys 7.6R

During the reboot part of the install procedure a "can't find file"
message is generated, along with the text "ld.s0.1" and libs c."
then lots of errors.

Do you have any idea what the problem might be? Are there log files
the sun install procedure writes to that I could check for more
information?

John was able to install the-thin-man using Helios, but I'm wondering
why things didn't work with Solar.

When you're around can you let me know so we can try to figure out
what's wrong?

Thanks!
