Can you tell where to send this message so it gets to the folks who
repair equipment (and throw out broken equipment) within I/S? I think
this is a worthwhile project, and I/S participation by posting
announcements would help. Thanks,

Michael Jacknis

New Mailing List -- reuse@mit.edu

The Institute disposes of a large quantity of merchandise of all sorts
which is still usable, either for its original intended purpose or for
some other purpose (hacking, parts, education, etc.) This mailing list
distributes information about the location of these goods.

These products include laboratory equipment, electronics, appliances,
scrap wire, furniture, office equipment, scrap structural material,
boxes and other packaging, etc. The Institute has a large student and
staff population and there has got to be someone out there interested in
your stuff, no matter what it is!

It is hoped that laboratories and departments will participate by
posting information and allowing time for interested parties to retrieve
the items.

** To post: When you send mail to reuse@mit.edu to announce your
trash, you may wish to include the following information:

 - Name & description.
 - Status of functionality, if known.
 - Size and Weight.
 - Present location.
 - Deadline for removal.
 - Safety information (broken glass, previously used for poisons,
   exposed wiring, etc.)

** To respond: When you reply to the sender and reuse@mit.edu, please
state what you intend to do with the item(s) if you would like to find
other people also interested in the project. If conflicts arise, please
try to be nice :-)

Eventually, we may set up a discuss meeting to record the active
postings for your convenience. If you have a private workstation and
would be willing to have it set up as a discuss server, please let us
know at reuse-request@mit.edu. Thanks!
