Dear Colleagues,

As you would imagine, the extreme heat and humidity are causing a strain on energy production at the Central Utilities Plant. During today and tomorrow, it may be necessary for the CUP to selectively cut back on the chilled water to air handling systems that provide comfort cooling. This means that some areas will be less cool than usual. These measures are being taken to assure that we are able to maintain conditions in critical areas including research and animal facilities.

We ask that you assist us in reducing energy use on campus: http://cogen.mit.edu/powermit/What%20You%20Can%20Do.htm

If you have an adjustable thermostat, raise the setting as high as is comfortable. (The recommended setting for today and tomorrow is 78 degrees.) Turn off any electronic devices when not in use Shut doors and windows Close the sashes on lab fume hoods Use revolving doors

We appreciate your assistance in our endeavors and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please pass this message on to your department personnel.

Regards,
Ruth
