Hi Guys!
Ummm...As you may know, TDC keeps much of our treasury books on Athena.
Unfortunately, our treasurer has just erased an important file, and has
asked if there is any means of restoration. We made backups to floppy,
but the floppy seems to have gone bad (checksum directory error?) and
he is at wit's end. It seems that at about 12:00 noon today, he saved
another file under the wrong name, thus removing the original and
leaving 2 copies of the other one. (There is no #file or file~ to
recover, either.) He thinks he may have saved changes over the last
few days, but isn't sure. His best estimate for rebuilding the file
from scratch is ~12 hours, and only about 80-90% of the data is
still around on hardcopy. Is there any chance for us?
The account is tdcbucks and is on cyrus/u1. The file name is
/mit/tdcbucks/89-90/monthly_records/checks_dispursed/october
He says that any restore from January 1 to 9:00am this morning
would be great. If possible, please respond via telephone as
quickly as possible with your thoughts on the possibility of
restoration. Our number is 494-8300, and I (Chuck) will be on
the roof (say that if/when you call). I am an Athena Consultant,
so I know that backups are usually frowned upon; I promise that
I wouldn't be asking if it weren't an important piece of data.
Hope to hear from you soon...
