Hi John,
Well I took the memory sims above the original 8Megs out and after one
complaint ( can't remember what it was ) it came up and I am able to
use it. I am going crazy it's so slow though. There is no point to
having DEC look at it since it is running fine. I will have to get
more memory though!!! Do you know of any place that tests these sims?
** I don't know of a place that would test the simms. You may try the
dealer. If it costs a good deal of money you could "assume"
simm #7 is bad by default.
Another question. On a non athena Decstation I have to configure the
kernal to tell it how much memory is installed. How does Athena
handle this. is it possible that I might get better performance if
the software were reinstalled? Might it be that this kernal thinks I
have more memory than I do?
** Installing the extra memory in the machine is the only step
needed to allow Athena Software to use it.
Use 'machtype -M -v' to check mem size used by the operating
system.
I would suggest any additional memory be bought from the MCC
(DEC Product) and that DEC does the install.
Good Luck,
John
Thanks, Lois
