Project Name: Longjobs
Team Members: Bob Basch, Ted McCabe, Carter Snowden
Report Date: March 8, 2002
Project Notebook: http://web.mit.edu/longjobs/notebook/
Accomplishments this period:
- Deployed new wrapper script for common operations.
- Completed capacity analysis tool.
- Implemented initial versions of wrappers to register new or existing
users.
- Brought Linux slave question back to Owls, as Ops has completed
the necessary support work. We are ready to purchase machines,
pending sponsor approval. We plan to defer upgrading our Sun servers
until summer, since most of the expected course use this term will
be on SGI.
- Began considering how we might charge for sponsored research use,
instead of simply turning away such users.
- Completed maintenance utilities for the quota database.
- Set appropriate message logging levels; ensured that all events
where the queues are modified are forwarded to the logging host.
- Continued to update user and internal documentation.
- Continued to work on sign-up form.
- Began documenting disaster recovery procedures.
- Registered a couple of students working on theses.
Goals for next period:
- Complete sign-up form.
- Continue investigation on how to charge for sponsored research use.
- Check in with faculty/courses who expressed interest in using the
service this term.
- Continue to update and review documentation.
- Complete documentation of disaster recovery procedures.
- Continue prep work for roll-out.
Issues:
- Staffing shortages continue to delay some of the support prep work
needed for the official roll-out.
