Project Name: ECAT - New Vendors
Submitted by: Lorraine Rappaport
Report Date: October 8, 2001
Project URL: http://web.mit.edu/is/delivery/ecat
Accomlishments Past Period:
General:
- Procurement announced new vendor partnerships to the community. So far,
reaction has been positive.
- New vendors participated in the Vendor Fair.
- Began discussions on updating ecat web pages.
PC Connection:
- Contract has been signed
- PC Connection completed most of the development work to a) accept MIT
certificates, and b) format the OBI 850 order request.
- PC Connection sent sample OBI 850 order request for review.
- Finalized specifications for EDI 850 and 810 formats. Sent test
transactions.
- Finalized most of the logistics for transport of the EDI documents. PC
Connection is setting up ftp mailbox and expects to be ready to test this
week.
Dell:
- Continued negotiation of contract and statement of work. Both are very
close.
- Held conference call to discuss Dell's requirements for "punching out" to
their catalog.
- Continued work to build XML parser for the order request.
- Sent our EDI 810 specification to Dell.
- Had several discussions with Dell and internally about options for
personal purchases.
Grainger:
- Kept tabs on Grainger's catalog upgrade schedule. They should be ready
to begin working with us later this fall.
- Discussed possibility of using XML for formatting order request and PO.
XML is their strategic preference. Received a copy of their DTD.
Goals for Next Period:
General:
- Work on prototype for updated ecat web pages.
PC Connection:
- Get access to their development catalog and test transactions.
- Finalize setup for EDI transmission and encryption. Test.
- Conduct end-to-end testing of the order process.
- Begin to line up community pilot testers.
- We may or may not be ready for the SAP integration test later this month.
Dell:
- Finalize contract and statement of work
- Finish (we hope) work on XML parser and PO output.
- Establish punch-out and get access to Dell's premier pages.
- Map the EDI 810 and test.
- Continue discussions and reach consensus on handling of personal purchases.
Grainger:
- Keep up to date on their catalog upgrade schedule and readiness to begin
working with us.
Issues:
- NECX informed us of several changes to their site planned for
mid-November, including domain name change to gateway.com, and branding
changes to "powered by Gateway" or similar wording. We will need to work
with NECX to ensure a smooth transition with no disruption in service.
