Accomplishments for the past period:
- IBM custom code development - bad, good & great news; bad: $150K
estimated price tag for sysadmin browser interface; good: op and
end user browser interface & accounting scripts came in under
budget; great: core required functionality is complete!; lots
of code testing and feedback this month
- decided to use system console for local, and SSH/Xwindows for remote,
sysadmin GUI due to high browser pricetag
- completed lots of GL statement testing successfully; some issues
with printer speed via net still to be resolved
- drafted logical diagram of software pieces to aid production transition
- resolved file submittal problem via Macs thanks to help from Al Willis
- resolved org fit for Eforms maintenance & new projects for both the
mainframe & IPM print environments; maintenance will live in DOST &
new projects will live in EAST; DOST to provide a replacement for
Anger, and will work with Lynne
- revised WBS
- drafted a list of ASST responsibilities for clarification purposes
- provided a draft how-to operations document to DOST for their review
- touched bases with Admissions; they will probably be ready to
use the new service in July for applications via PDF
- verified authentication solution for application servers
- acquired and setup a PC for Eforms work with Elixir
Goals for the coming period:
- see what we can do to influence changing Netscape config defaults
for MIT's distribution of same
- monitor and test accounting and usage report scripts developed by IBM
- possibly run first production output if Admissions is ready; meet with
Admissions to finalize their rollout plans
- implement htaccess for authorization
- switch from timer to interrupt driven mechanism for LPR file submittals
- meet with HD & BLT to prep them for rollout
- rewrite the browser interface with usability & MIT look & feel in mind
- work with ASST to ensure a smooth transition to production mode (move
pillage to E40, backups, op docs, etc.)
- document and train operators on the web interface (carry over)
- work with VM-SST to implement changes for duplex/simplex path solution;
there's some resistance to do this before GL is converted
- complete the Financial Model (carry over)
- continue customer discussions wrt IPM rollout & network based
mainframe printing (ongoing)
