Not that I have an ax to grind either way, but what if the CIXer's
banded together to capitalize the necessary hardware and just grabbed
MCI Switched DS-3 service to lace up their own backbone? Admittedly,
you'd have to find some way to apportion the variable cost back out to
the end users or the mid-levels, but still, it's significantly cheaper
than lacing up a dedicated DS-3 network...

Sort of seems like an obvious thing to do. And given the ANS <-> MCI link,
might amuse a those  people who enjoy a bit of irony...
