ERICSSON GE SIGNS JOINT DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT WITH ANTERIOR TECHNOLOGY AND RIM
PARAMUS, NJ (NOV. 18) - Ericsson GE announced Monday that it signed a
joint development and marketing agreements with Anterior Technology and
Research In Motion (RIM) to develop a wireless E-Mail gateway service.
This service will allow out-of-office workers to use their portable
computers to access major public and private E-mail systems over Mobitex
mobile data networks.
Anterior's RadioMail gateway will connect the RAM Mobile Data Mobitex
network to public E-mail systems such as ATTMail, LAN-based systems such
as Lotus cc: Mail and the worldwide TCP/IP Internet and UUCP/USENET.
RIM will develop an E-mail application software package which will allow
portable computers to access the RadioMail gateway using Ericsson GE
Radio modems.
The HP 95LX palmtop marketed by Hewlett-Packard is the first portable
computer for which the wireless E-mail application software is being
developed. ''We are pleased Ericsson GE has chosen the HP 95LX for
their wireless E-mail debut '' says Dan Terpack, general manager of HP's
Corbalis division.
Ericsson GE, which currently markets vehicle-based radio modems for
verticle market applications, will announce the first member of its
portable radio modem line at the ComNet trade show on Jan. 28, 1992 in
Washington DC.

technology is quickly becoming recognized as a superior alternative to
cellular telephone-based data communciations due to its inherent cost
advantages, robust data communications and deferred communications

Canada, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland and Norway. Mobitex systems
are marketed throughout the world by Ericsson GE.

offers turnkey communication services for Internet, Unix UUCP and
cc;Mail sites.
Research In Motion, headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, specializes in
software development and electronic engineering in the portable
communications field. It also provides an application program interface
(API) for Mobitex, which allows software companies to rapidly develop
applications without the need to acquire specialized knowledge of radio
communications protocols.
Ericsson GE Mobile Data Inc., based in Paramus, is part of the Ericsson
GE joint venture in mobile communications. Ericsson GE Mobile Data
markets radio modems, mobile data terminals and communications software
for the Mobitex system in the US. The company is also responsible for
