I hope their problems are not a portent of things to come. I've been told
the system operates on a SUN connected to the milnet with a 56kBaud link.
If this means what I think it does, the whole of milnet is being carried
on this 56kBaud circuit. The system is unusable 95% of the time, the
database is getting trashed on a regular basis, inquiries are not slow
in getting resolved, etc. What normally took a week to ten days to
accomplish is now being done in three.
On the surface, this seems to be the result of low-bid as opposed to
best-bid.
