That statement represents a careful effort on the part of this news
organization to conduct ourselves in the most ethical fashion possible
online. As one network authority put it in mail last night, it's easy
to forget that you're dealing with a reporter and say something you might
not say in a phone call. The disclaimer lets you know that someone <is>
conducting research for a story, so you aren't caught unaware.
Let me save you some effort from worrying about when you're going to be
quoted, Sean: Assume that it's not an issue.

No, that's quite the opposite of what happened. I've just rechecked the
headers on that thread of discussion, and you're clearly the one who
reposted private mail to the list. In fact, I was careful to not post your
mail, only my replies, in order that your privacy was not invaded, as was
mine by your actions.
