I think the public commitment demonstrated by Al Weis and Bill Schrader in
their separate but harmonious notes to interconnect ANS and the CIX is a
noteworthy breakthrough.  What will ice the cake is the timely release of
the major technical, economic, and social aspects of the interconnectivity
arrangement.  

No doubt there are still areas of disagreement and substantial
uncertainties.  Perhaps the prospect of delivering some sort of  joint
announcement at Interop will spur the hard work needed to complete the
negotiation.

The Internet user community will be the real winner in this.  

It will also be a profound object lesson to the telecommunications
industry, which can't seem to agree on anything (ONA, MFJ,) that
cooperative, voluntary interconnect arrangements beat the hell out of
government regulation and lawsuits.
