Ed,
Ok. There are folk who want to do the work, but funding and organization
are lacking. Presume ANS..CIX..ZZZ are not going to do it, as it is not
profitable ( can we smear cream over the top of SIMTEL? :-).
So, if these facilities are percived as part of our social contract, what's
this Internet Society thing ( I sent in the form and received an ACK ), and
can we put it to good use? If so, maybe someone with a rep for organizing
new facilities ( I wonder who, Ed :-) should issue a call for an Internet
Facilities Research and Maintenence subcommittee, taskforce, poobah, or
whatever.
RAINet ( the Portland Orygun metronet ) and PSGnet are users of archie,
various archives, wais, et alia. So we'll volunteer to chip in a small bit
of cash on a continuing basis.
