The peanut gallery has learned not to ask questions,
because we don't get honest answers. Given that there's no use in asking
questions, please do not assume that we know anything other than what one
directly reads here after a pound of salt has been added to it.
If this is true, this is a sad state of affairs. What can we, the
Internet providers, do to correct this? Is com-priv the right place
to do it? Have you found your honest answers in this jumble?
The flaming on com-priv has always seemed excessive and
counter-productive to me. What does "the peanut gallery which has
learned not to ask questions" want?
To be specific, many of us are still waiting for any concrete report out
of the famous Montana meeting that was going to clear up everything.
Following the Montana meeting, I posted a two-page summary of what was
presented in Montana. Since then, ANS has publically e-published our
plan for Commercial Plan which includes the issue of ANS/mid-level
relationships, as well as the so-called "settlements" issue.
With regard to alternate models of Internet interconnectivity, such as
the CIX, we have publically stated our concerns (both technical and
strategic) in an attempt to get feedback from the com-priv community.
No one responded but Marty Schoffstall: a CIX co-founder.
ANS has actively participated in the Internet Engineering Task Force
(IETF) and various other Internet-related forums (including FARnet
meetings). We participate in com-priv and other Internet mailing
lists. And finally we recently started up our own mailing list,
CO+RE@ANS.NET, to disseminate information and promote discussion among
ANS, its customers, and potential customers.
On a personal note, I have also spoken to some of you individually,
and invite anyone on com-priv to come up to Elmsford and talk to us.
I will also be at Interop in a few weeks...
