I wonder what the legal ramifications of gathering this level of
information vis-a-vis Electronic Communications Privacy Act are? Gathering
application type identification information would seem to be a possibly
"grey" area situated between straight COMINT (communications intelligence -
who's talking to whom with nothing to do with message content) and SIGINT
(signals intelligence - who's talking to whom and message content).
Anyone else have any thoughts on this ?
