Dave:

You favour a geographic based hierarchy, so do i. If you are in the US
and agree, go get a name in the US domain. It already has a geographic
hierarchy. No argument.

My message yesterday was intended to be a practical suggestion for those
who reject geographic based names, as to what an alternative might look
like. Some people seem to like it.

   Jon,

You propose creating a brand new administrtion and assignment authority for
personal identifiers. My proposal rather pointedly does not. Hence, I
think the important question is the operational viability of an effort to
create such a new administration. My own belief is that the effort is much
too high. Why do you think it is not.

In the plug-and-play world that we are seeking, this assignment must take
place when a brand new Internet user plugs in their personal digital
   assistant, e.g., to their phone.
