Peter Lewis has two big articles on them and the general state of
controversy on USENET in the NYT today. It's typical Peter. He seems
to side once again, however subtly, with what seems to be "normal
business people taking rightful advantage of a 'geek' medium." Title
of the article is "Sneering at a virtual lynch mob." Quotes include
one discussing how Mr. Canter admires the person who built robotic
pager to page them 40 times a night: '"I must admit, I admire his
tenacity," said Mr. Canter, who is tenacious himself.' He even goes
on to sweep their suspension from the Florida bar under the rugh. by
saying that was simply "not their first experience with public scorn."
I'm beginning to wonder who's going to start causing more damage, C&S
or the NYT. At any rate, it's clear that the only way to get at these
people is to find some other kind of legal or market avenue to stop
them. It would sure be nice if superoxygenated water violated some
kind of Department of Commerce statute or that some of their
activities violated some zoning ordinance or something. I don't know
who in their right mind is going to advertise with these people.
Oh, and is saying someone sure looks ugly a possible basis for a
lawsuit?
