The Wall Street Journal had three Internet related stories in the same day.
1. MTV Networks, Inc is in a huff over Adam Curry (former MTV VJ) registering
the domain MTV.COM on the Internet.
No mention of the earlier dispute over domain names between Wired magazine
and the Women's Wired. I think there was also some politics over
the Macedonia domain (MK).
2. Mosaic Communications founded by five of the original developers
of NCSA Mosaic (Marc Andreessen, et al) and SGI's founder James Clark.
3. More on Canter & Siegal's plans to "bring advertising to USENET/Internet."
According to the article, they made $50,000 (about 500 applications
at $95 each?).
I noticed that C&S's IP network number is listed as being
NSFnet AUP compliant in the Merit policy routing database.
P.S. The National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators is devoting
its annual conference to "Consumer Protection in a High-Tech World."
Supposedly they are planning "lots" of sessions on the data superhighway.
June 5-8 in Tucson, Arizona (Yes, right next door to C&S!!!). I wonder
if they'll have a session on health benefits of super-oxgenated water?
I haven't heard who NACAA has invited to explain the data superhighway.
NACAA, 1010 Vermont Ave. N.W., Ste 514 Washington, D.C. (202) 347-7395.
