The problem with your question is that the pricing will be quite variable.
Many campuses have already made some investiment in fiber-optic cabling
for a variety of purposes in addition to running data networks. Others have
not yet placed a foot of fiber.
Some campuses will need a large number of FDDI routers/concentrators/interface
cards. Others won't.
Some metro areas are beginning to see MANs develop that will allow cheaper
access to the T3 backbone that running the current T3 technology from the
phone company from the nearest node to the local campus.
At Baylor, we are running our own fiber to Rice, so we'll have at least
T3 access to the T3 backbone.
