Update from the front:
Dave Alexander is working on the problems we found. He's doesn't think
a new GMA is necessary. I think it's worth a try (stomach knotted
tightly). Here's what he's planning to do:
He's re-extracting the items with the fixed table and will send us a new
PIECES file. That should take care of much of the problem. For the
serials he'll re-do those MARC records to fix the bad location mapping
and try to work around some other the other serials problems. As for
the circ transactions they have a program to run through and fix the circ
code / patron group linkages. He has already done some work to fix the
Acq problems we sent him.
He's aware that we plan to restore the data after we've tested the GMA,
but these fixes are going to make it more difficult. Therefore I am
going to shut down access to the functions that change data so we don't
inadvertently make things more difficult except for the opac. We'll
make sure we backup any new files he sends us.
I'll try to get the old database restored ASAP after the system comes
back up so we can continue to work on the other aspects of the system we
need to get fixed.
I think it's worth a try.
