It seems that the problem with emmy is fairly hard to track down. Sun
is sending some more test equipment and replacement hardware tomorrow
(Friday) to diagnose and repair the problem.
These problems are a kind of teething pain for emmy. When the 8000 was
initially installed there were a number of problems with the hardware.
Eventually, they were worked out and the 8000 was a very reliable
machine for many years. We had more problems with external
environmental factors than with the machine itself.
It's beginning to look like the earliest we'll have emmy back is Monday.
The longer it takes to fix the problem the slower we'll bring her back
up. We'll likely want to run some serious diagnostics to make sure the
fixes are holding before we start using the machine for Advance. It
will also become more complicated to schedule Geac to finish the GMA
over the weekend and do our backup work.
We'll have an update late Friday morning.
"Emmy will be alright when the Sun comes out."
"There better be a really, really, REALLY good party at the end of
this."
