Geac database freeze and Public Services impacts

As was announced at Monday's all staff meeting on Advance, MRMS
will be unavailable beginning Saturday, May 27. Since there wasn't
time to go into detail at the all staff meeting, we thought it would
be helpful to everyone if we listed the impacts the database
freeze will have on work in Acquisitions and Cataloging and the
services we provide for the Public Service units.
-HOLDINGS/BIBLIOGRAPHIC CHANGES: Serials and Monograph cataloging
will not be able to make any holdings changes in GLIS after this week.
Bibliographic and holdings changes made this week in MRMS will not be
available to staff or the public until Advance is up in June.
Divisional/Branch Libraries should hold onto record change reports
until the end of June.
-BOOK HUNTS: During the database freeze, Acquisitions staff will be
unable to check whether or when a title has been received. Therefore,
our capacity for book hunts will be extremely limited. We ask that
Divisional/Branch libraries hold book hunt requests until after
Advance is available, whenever possible. If a book hunt must be
requested, please direct them to PJ Buehler (3-9879) during this
interim period.
-PRE-CATS: Cataloging will continue to send out pre-cats that have
brief on-order records. Location information will not be updated,
however, until we have access to Advance.
-OCLC RECORDS: Cataloguers will continue to create catalog records on
OCLC during the Geac database freeze. OCLC catalog records created
during this period will be unavailable in our local system
until Advance is up in June. Reference and processing staff should
check OCLC for the MIT cataloging symbol MYG to find out whether
an item has been received and cataloged at MIT.
