With overnight ftp-ing of OCLC records into Advance, we
need to account for the time between cataloging a record
and the item's stay in the bindery. Is there a need for
temporary location information, to be updated on receipt by
processing librarians in public service units?
****Ray's point is well taken. Temporary locations will be changed via
status and action codes. I have begun to look at status codes and
have asked BOG to begin discussing how we should handle them. One of
the big issues for public service people has been knowing where a book
is at a given time during its processing and cataloging. I am not
necessarily advocating that a book be updated at every point along its
journey, but this issue is worth discussing, especially in light of
the cross functional implications.
