Deb,
Thanks for your response to PSR1317 CANCEL record transaction spec.
The optional spec as you've restated it isn't quite what we were
asking. I've reedited what you sent me into 2 separate specs.
If this doesn't make sense, I'd be happy to call you.
What is your number?
In the meantime, see below:

***NO (see below)
Regarding the sentence "Therefore, when
>a record has (x03) in offset 22 of the leader.....the following data
>_only_:", are you now asking that if a match occurs on a monograph OR on a
>serial bib record that the 245 tag is to be replaced?
****YES
Are the rest of the
>tags to be stripped from the existing bibliographic record?
****NO, WOULDN'T THAT BE COMPLICATED AND EXPENSIVE $$$$?
Also,
>"..overwrite the bibliographic record(s).." implies that the incoming
record
>could find more than one match; is this correct? ****YES

THE INCOMING RECORD(S) INTO THE WORKFILE AND REPORT AN ERROR TYPE
'Cancel Command Match' TO THE STANDARD ADVANCE LOAD REPORT.
In the above option, the system isn't required to do any kind of
check on whether the match is a serial or a monograph.

As another option, we would not require the system to report
anything to the standard Advance load report. In the following
alternative, we are asking only for the 245 field to be
overwritten. In this way, we could subsequently have our database
maintenance staff do a title search on 'Deleted Record' and go
through and manually delete all of the records and items that were
retrieved through that search. We think this may ultimately
be easier than working from a system report.
OPTIONAL SPECS WITHOUT LOAD REPORT FOR II.B:
II.B. "Cancel" command records: The cancel holdings transaction is
utilized when all copies of a title are withdrawn from the MIT Libraries
collections. Therefore, when the record has (x03) in offset 22 of the
leader, the cancelled record should check for matches on the 001
and 035 fields AND OVERWRITE THE BIBLIOGRAPHIC RECORD(S) WITH THE
FOLLOWING DATA AND THE FOLLOWING DATA ONLY IN THE 245 FIELD. (No
system report is required.)
245 ******DELETED RECORD*******
