Sarah, just a real quick description of the option I thought of in BOG
today. If Geac cannot actually delete records with the cancel command from
OCLC (DELH) that have items and/or copy sets attached, how about this as
an alternative to an error report... from our original spec where we write
"matches on the 001 and 035 fields and delete the matched..." instead write:
matches on the 001 and 035 fields and overwrite the bibliographic
record(s) with the following data and the following data _only_:
260 *** DELETED RECORD ***
650 deleted record
This way we could have staff periodically search the catalog for
"s=deleted record" and step through the resulting hits removing items
and copy sets and then _really_ deleting the records. Seems easier than
having to type in search keys based on an error report.
One refinement might be to ask that the 035's remain intact (this would
allow us to trace which record had been deleted), but this seems pretty
unimportant since the DELH code was sent, so who really cares what the
record was.
