Grant, About your other point, that you were hoping we would send out
our bib records to an authority vendor and get back big beautiful full
authority records...well, me, too.
However, the vendor will only have full beautiful a.recs. for some of
our headings (the ones LC has dealt with). All the rest of the
headings will need provisional authority records. Now it's true that
we could get a vendor to create provisional authority records, also,
at some extra cost (although in a perfect world I think there are
several reasons why we might prefer to use Advance provisional a.recs.
rather than other-vendor-created provisional a.recs.). However, even
if we do get the vendor to generate provisional a.recs. for our
unmatched headings, the day after the lovely new records come back
from the vendor, we'll be creating new headings, and Advance will need
to create some new, decent provisional a.recs.
