We've noticed one thing that helps
1) Turn off the MS client - doesn't help if you work in a mixed shop :(

I've also seen something somewhere in XP about discover network files etc.
I have it turned off, and am about to install the XP Novell client (as soon
as I ghost!).  Will report back if I find anything.
