This is something that has been prevalent with dozens of XP installs here at UCSB (and, according to some people on this list, other places as well), though a manual release/renew doesn't even fix it most of the time. The solutions we found were to manually assign a static IP, then switch back to DHCP, or to pull the wire from the NIC and wait till you get the "MS private address space" address (169.254), then plug back in.
        Either way, 'taint natural.

/Dax

Subject: XP users not renewin IP's

We are noticing a fair amount of our ResNet XP users who are not automatically renewing their IP's once the lease expires. The workaround is to manually release/renew. Just wondering if anybody has found this happening and a better solution
