Curtis:
They have not been used a great deal and although they are linked from our main page, I don't know if many of our students realize they are there. We have not really "advertised" other than our main web page and word of mouth.

We use an ASP script and Access database for our forums. For us it was easy to setup and keep going, which is a plus!

Lisa,

Your forums look like something we might like to do here at UC Santa Barbara. It doesn't look like your forums get a huge amount of use, though. Why do you think that is? What steps have you taken to publicize the forums?

Also, do you know what software you are using for the forums? It is pretty slick and we will need something like that if we do our own.

Thanks!
Curtis Kline

Andrew:
We have three forums/bulletin boards [http://www.resnet.eku.edu/bb/bb.asp] setup for students. They are specific to the ResNet web site alone and are not linked from the main EKU site.

The forums are bulletin boards for: Student Sales [Ethernet adapters/cables/computer parts]; Support Issues; and a new one for Bandwidth questions [since P2P programs are taking their toll!].

Do any of you have on-line forums where students with like interests can discuss them? If yes, are they part of your campus portal website? If yes, how do you serve the forums? Listservs, web sites, etc.

BTW, how many of you have portals? We just implemented a home-grown portal for our students and it is now the default home page in our campus computer labs. You can see our efforts at: http://my.uwsp.edu.

If you have portal and/or forum web pages, please reply with links so we can look at them and get ideas.

Thanks,

Colleen
