All:

This is the sort of thing we're looking at here at Emory as well. Our
residential lab use has remained about 75% of what it probably was,
mostly due to free laser printing. We're planning on keeping the free
printing, but we're also looking at creating more social, collaborative
computing spaces with emphasis group work, presentation practices, etc.
- Maybe we increase the number of printers while reducing the number of
desktop workstations dramatically. We're also looking at new furniture
that makes laptop use more comfortable (a large majority of our student
residential population are laptop owners)

One of our concerns is that our hall labs are open 7/24 with secure card
access, unstaffed by students or ITD staff. This means we're reluctant
to put in scanners or other equipment that are a bit more "delicate" to
support and maintain.

We hope to start this work in the fall semester, so I'm also interested
in any other experiences.
