May Assign Duplicate IP Addresses to Clients That Are Behind a Network

Doesn't really say much, other than MS is blaming the third-party DHCP
implementations...

We here at Kent State University have been experiencing alot of WinXP
related problems. The one at the forefront is an Issue we've found in
Dell Dimension
machines that come with the "Local Area Connection" bridged with a "WAN
Adapter". This has caused a problem because when bridged, the MAC
address for the
local area connection is "not available" and the MAC for the WAN adapter
is the one most often found and reported by the students. Since one
person has
registered that erronious MAC in our DHCP we have been getting alot of
IP conflicts from Dell Dimension owners who havent even tried to
register yet. In order to
find the correct MAC address the bridge must be removed. I wonder if any
other Universities have had this problem? If so, please let us know. I
wonder why Dell
would choose to ship computers with the adapters bridged? Maybe it has
something to do with the manufacture process and the possible use of
Ghost?
