At USD, we have IMP 2.0 running on an 8 machine, load balanced cluster
of Solaris X1's behind a layer 4 switch. The web front ends do Imap
requests against a pair of load balanced Solaris T1's. The DB back end
to IMP is on yet another Solaris box which we replicate in case it goes
down.
This system has been handling about 4,000 users for 4 months with no
real problems.
Previous to that, the system was handling some 2000 accounts on a single
Sun E450, but was pretty heavily loaded.
